Trail work

May 9, 2009

Today Stu, the other club officers and some members hit the SBTR trails to see what kind of shape they were in before the May 23rd opening. They already knew there’s at least one spot they’ll be hitting with an excavator, but there were also drainage ditches to clear and brush to cut back.

Plenty of rocks:

Along with plenty of water:

Almost time to hit the trails

May 8, 2009

Got the gear check done. Nobody needs a new helmet, which is great, but we all need new goggles.

Those protective bags that come with new goggles? Yeah, we throw those away. You can usually find our goggles hanging from the handlebars or stretched over the instrument display. Tossed on the picnic table. Shoved in the cargo box. We’re hard on goggles.

Thinking about getting everybody some tall rubber boots, too—the kind you wear to muck out a barn. I’m tired of everbody changing their jeans because the hems are mud-soaked.

The cylinder’s back for the King Quad and they were waiting on axle parts. It should be up and running in plenty of time to head north.

The North Country ATV trails open the 16th, and we’ll be there.

Almost time for the new season

April 29, 2009

We spent the weekend up at Big Rock Campground. We couldn’t ride, of course, because it’s the dreaded mud season, but we were able to open up the camper and fix a couple of things that needed fixing before it’s time to ride.

Hopefully the King Quad will be fixed before May 16th, which is North Country ATV’s Landowner Appreciation and trail clean-up day. Last we knew the cylinder (I think) was in Wisconsin, having something done to it. The Rincon’s serviced and ready to ride. The Hawkeye’s going in this weekend. The little Sportsman needs to be dragged out and looked over. It’s been sitting a while, waiting for #2 Son to grow into it.

Next up—gear check! It’s amazing how quickly growing boys outgrow their gear!

Under construction

A little bored during mud season. Stay tuned.
